The Chess Symbols Toolbar
The Chess Symbols Toolbar
deals only with chess symbols.
Many chess publications with a global audience make
extensive use of chess symbols for their annotated games. Of
particular note are the chess publications by Chess Informant. The
Alpine fonts have an extensive collection of these chess symbols and
many more. The Marroquin FigurineSymbolTx fonts also have a great
many chess symbols. To use these chess symbols in OoChess is simply a
matter of clicking on the icon for the symbol you want.
The most common chess symbols are available directly
on the Chess Symbol Toolbar.
For extended chess symbols, you can click on any of
the three chess symbol group icons:
Each of these icons will bring up a dialog of
extended chess symbols. These icons, from left to right, are the
Informant, NIC (New In Chess) and USCF Symbols.
These are described below.
The first icon brings up a dialog of the extended Informant chess symbols that you can choose from:
The second icon brings up a dialog of the extended NIC chess symbols that you can choose from:
The third icon brings up a dialog of he extended USCF chess symbols that you can choose from:
For the Marroquin Template, there is another group of symbols that can be accessed through the Other Symbols icon:
This brings up the Other Symbols:
Two additional Symbols – White and Black Box
At the very end of the
Chess Symbols Toolbar you'll find two additional symbol
characters:
These are not really
chess symbols, although the White Box could be mistaken for the
Informant symbol which means “Only Move.” The two box symbols are taken from the
Webdings font, a very common font that comes with the Windows OS.
These box characters are frequently used in chess literature, so they
have been added to the symbols toolbar for convenience. Below is just
one example of how you might use these symbols:
